History Of Our Organization

Mobile County Emergency Medical Services System Rescue Squad, Inc. (MCEMSSRS) is the leading provider of rural pre-hospital care, emergency medical education and training, and medical dispatch communications. The organization was founded in 1992 as a volunteer driven (EMS) with the concerted effort of the Mobile County Commission to promote the health, welfare and safety of residents living in rural and economically distressed communities within Mobile County. This includes certain geographic areas that exist within boundaries where emergency medical services are not available within acceptable standards, and whereas the lack of acceptable standards endangers the well being of citizens who live there. MCEMSSRS has approximately 130 combination personnel (paid and volunteer), dedicated to providing Medical First Response, Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support.

Since the inception of MCEMSSRS; (1) Numerous service agreements with direct care providers have been coordinated, including public health care agencies, public safety departments and emergency management agencies, (2) More than (5,000) training hours have been provided in basic and advanced life support to educate, train, recruit and develop emergency medical professionals, with the assistance of direct providers, the community, private industry and individuals, (3) Over (12,000) calls have been dispatched for rapid emergency medical responses in rural and under-served communities in Mobile County, a host of community outreach services have been provided to educate the community and provide standby emergency medical services for large rural gatherings and other community events.
